Australian Institute of Urban Studies (WA Division)

The Australian Institute of Urban Studies (WA Division) is an independent not for profit organisation concerned with all aspects of urban affairs in Western Australia, part of a loose federation of state-based Institutes with a common interest in researching and advising on urban affairs.

Our Cities are constantly changing. We need to ensure that these changes are for the better and contribute to economic, environmental and social sustainability and wellbeing.  It offers many opportunities for members and other interested people to participate in the ongoing debate about urban living in Western Australia.

  • AIUS in WA has played an active part in this overall debate, being involved previously in debate on the expansion of the rail network, network city, ageing of the population and water supply to name but a few of our previous initiatives.

  • We plan to continue playing our part in identifying and debating issues regarding the development of both City and State.  With a wide range of interests and experience, we have the capability to harness great thinking with a view to developing solutions for both Government and industry and, indeed, discussing those solutions that require implementation and helping to facilitate this process.

  • Unlike other representative organisations that work in this field, the advantage that the Australian Institute of Urban Studies has is that of independence and therefore AIUS is not beholden to any specific representative group.

  • We can independently look at all aspects of urban affairs, ensuring the best choices are identified and recommendations given for Western Australia and that these choices are successfully implemented.

Whether this be plans for the development of Perth's City Centre, focusing on strategies to accommodate the ageing of the population or expressing concern and offering debate on solutions to struggling public services, these are all areas that impact on urban affairs and on which we can provide comment and offer support in terms of achieving a better outcome.
