JULY AIUS FORUM: LIVEABLE NEIGHBOURHOODS

AIUS's second Forum for 2011 "Liveable Neighbourhoods" was held at the Brass Monkey on the 7th of July.

Liveable Neighbourhoods was released (as a trial document) in 1997, with the vision of tying together the State's ad-hoc design policies into a visionary new form, strongly influenced by New Urbanism and Murrain's Responsive Environments agenda. The strong focus was on creating liveable places. Many professionals question whether this vision has been realised, and if not, why? This forum continued the conversations commenced by the PIA Urban Design Chapter last month, and stimulated further critical debate.

Our key speakers included Professor Richard Weller, Brett Wood Gush, Ian Holloway, Alan Tranter and Emmerson Richardson, asking the question whether LN is achieving its original vision ... or as Dr Linley Lutton poses the question; "Are our neighbourhoods loveable?"
