AIUS ANNOUNCES FINAL FORUM FOR 2011 - THE MASDAR EXPERIENCE AND ENTROPIC URBANISM - 16 NOV 2011

Many comments arising from the recent AIUS "5x5 Forum" on Liveable Neighbourhoods related to the consequences of relaxing LN's urban design standards, in favour of suburban design standards; or effectively, a watering down of the urban condition it was originally aimed to deliver.

Add to this the limited range of design responses that our profession is defaulting to, and it raises a valid question about how we introduce diversity, authenticity and interest into urban environments.

These two keynote talks by Sasha Ivanovich and Linley Lutton opened up a lively discussion about techniques, successes and failures in delivering rich, rewarding and sustainable urban environments, and how we might introduce these principles to contemporary practice.

Linley spoke on Entropic Urbanism (including ‘tilts' to Hundertwasser), whilst Sasha spoke to the development of Masdar in the United Arab Emirates, with reference to the application of its principles to the North West of WA.
